Abram Rescues Lot

Chapter 14
1 In the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations— 2 They made war with Bera king of Sodom and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah and Shemeber king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela (that is Zoar). 3 All these joined at the Valley of Siddim, which is the Sea of Salt. 4 Twelve years they served Chedorlaomer, and in the thirteenth year they rebelled. 5 And in the fourteenth year Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him came and struck the Rephaim in Ashteroth Karnaim and the Zuzim in Ham and the Emim in Shaveh Kiriathaim. 6 and the Horites in their mountain Seir as far as El-Paran, which is on the wilderness 7 And they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is Kadesh), and they struck all the field of the Amalekite and also the Amorite who dwells in Hazezon-tamar. 8 And the king of Sodom and the king of Gomorrah and the king of Admah and the king of Zeboiim and the king of Bela—that is Zoar—went out, and they arrayed battle against them in the Valley of Siddim. 9 Chedorlaomer king of Elam, Tidal king of Nations, Amraphel king of Shinar, and Arioch king of Ellasar—four kings against the five. 10 And the Valley of Siddim was pits, pits of chomer. And the king of Sodom and Gomorrah fled and fell there, and the remaining ones fled to the mountain. 11 They took all the goods of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food, and they went. 12 And they took Lot and his property, Abram's brother's son, and they went, and he was sitting in Sodom. 13 The fugitive came and told Abram the Hebrew. He was dwelling at the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Arioch and brother of Eshcol, and they were possessors of the covenant of Abram. 14 Abram heard that his brother had been taken captive, and he mustered his trainees, born in his house, three hundred and eighteen, and he pursued as far as Dan. 15 He divided his forces upon them by night—he and his servants—and struck them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is on the left of Damascus. 16 He recovered all the possessions. He also brought back his brother Lot and his possessions, as well as the women and the people. 17 And the king of Sodom went out to meet him after his return from striking Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him, to the Valley of Shaveh, which is the Valley of the King. 18 And Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine, and he was priest to God Most High. 19 He blessed him and said, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, possessor of heavens and earth." 20 And blessed be God Most High, who has delivered your enemies into your hand. And he gave him a tenth of everything. 21 And the king of Sodom said to Abram, "Give me the souls, and take the property for yourself." 22 And Abram said to the king of Sodom, "I have lifted my hand to the LORD Most High, possessor of heavens and earth." 23 If—from a thread to a sandal-thong—and if I take from all that is yours, that you will not say, "I have enriched Abram." 24 except only what the lads have eaten and the share of the men who went with me, Aner, Arioch, and Mamre—they shall take their share.
